Emergency Meeting Cancelled PDF Print E-mail

In lieu of the emergency Club Creole General Body Meeting tonight, we ask that you join Club Creole in attending the Gators United for Haiti Candlelight Vigil tonight, Friday, January 15th at 7pm at the J. Wayne Reitz Union Amphitheatre. Gators United for Haiti is a student run philanthropic project supervised and aided by the University of Florida administration in motivating the Gator Nation to raise $50,000 for Haiti relief efforts.

On Tuesday, January 12th, the small country of Haiti was hit by a 7.0 earthquake. The powerful earthquake and its repeated aftershocks, have caused widespread damage to the capital city of Port au Prince as well as surrounding areas.

As a united body of student organizations, the group encourages everyone to take part in the effort by donating any form of aid possible. The entire campus community is welcome to attend the vigil, where donation stations will also be set up. Gators United for Haiti will accept donations in the form of cash or checks (checks must be made out to the University of Florida). If you wish to make a donation by credit card, the student group recommends making it to the Red Cross or Yele Haiti, a grassroots organization based in Haiti and founded by Grammy Award winning musician Wyclef Jean.

Note: Monetary donations and supplies will be collected all week on the UF Campus: Plaza of Americas, Turlington Plaza, Reitz Union Colonnade.

Feel free to donate any of the following: Monetary donations, clothing, hygiene products, non-Perishable grocery items, and pain relief medication. There is never too much aid so please donate as much as you can. Any help is useful help.

Sincerely,

THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
CLUB CREOLE EXECUTIVE BOARD & DIRECTORS 2009-2010

STATE OF EMERGENCY: Disaster Relief for Haiti PDF Print E-mail

Good Evening,

As people are tuning in across the world to the breaking news of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that took place today in Haiti, Club Creole would like for us all to come together to work on aiding in a massive relief effort. After the earthquake hit, there was at least a dozen aftershocks with at least a 5.0 magnitude, accounts of several buildings collapsing, witnesses stating that they saw dead bodies, and no modes of communication. At the moment, this is all the information that we have acquired thus far and we will continue to do our best to keep you updated. We should all work together to keep each other informed about what’s going on in our country.

Even after the hurricane devastation in 2008, the Haitian people continue to stand strong and have faith that we could endure disaster. As this day is described as being the worst day in Haitian history, we have to remember that “L’Union Fait La Force” (In Unity There is Strength). So with that being said, let's show our strength by coming together as one unified group working towards the common cause to help our people. At the moment, Club Creole’s Executive Board and Directors are in the process of developing a plan of action such as accepting funds, non-perishable foods, clothing, supplies, etc. We are planning to have an EMERGENCY GENERAL BODY MEETING (see 'Read More') that will allow Club Creole members and friends to come up with feasible solutions and to express any concerns that you may have in the state of our county, Haiti.
